Geethanjali background score - Ilayaraja

The everlasting classic by Ilaiyaraaja and Mani Ratnam !!!

My friend "Magical" describes about Geethanjali's BGM please read. He originally posted this write-up in a site www.pathabangaram.com. That is a wonderful site for old telugu songs. Interested people may register in it.

Recollect the bunch of the most successful movies of the 80s and early 90s.. Mounaragam, Geethanjali, vichita sodharalu ,sitara, swathi muthyam etc.. What strikes you the most? The cast? The plot? The Director No certainly not(excluding songs).. But you will certainly recollect the famous title theme of Geethanjali, or the famous flash-back theme of Mounaragam..or the famous love theme of sitara.

What would have been Manirathnam’s Geethanjali, if not for the symphony like Background music of Ilayaraja? Has any other music director in India, influenced to this extend, the success rate of the movies.. Probably not.. that makes Ilayaraja so special to me..

Once upon a time there was a stream called ‘Vamsy Movies’ in Telugu cinemas. When Vamsy’s second movie ‘Sithara’ was on the making, he got discouraging feedbacks from his crew. Dissappointed Vamsy aproached Ilayaraja.. Ilayaraja assured Vamsy that he has taken a very good movie indeed, and he completed the background scores for it.. The movie became a commercial success, after which it fetched the award for the best regional movie..

If anyone has seen the scary ‘Anweshana’ or the action-packed ‘Shiva’ or the fantasy ‘Jagadekaveerudu Athiloka Sundari’, would probably have noticed the final title-cards, for its mind-boogling scores..

Follow the title-cards of ‘Vichitra sodarulu"carefully.. After the fight scenes, the music gears up and tense everyone, and suddenly the mood changes to the maternal pains, of losing the kids – there comes Ilayaraja with his favorite theme in flute.. Can anybody else in India, even think of such kind of music pieces?

In geethanjali movie the bgm which comes after nagarjuna's accident is awesome and the same bgm is used in the movie tholi prema for the same scene ie the scene after the pawan kalyan's accident.

Raaja Paarvai BGM - Ilayaraja

What can I say about these everlasting Gems ? If anyone dare to provide some review on this then please writeup!!!

You know what? I have separately recorded both Amavasya chandrudu (Telugu film) and Raaja Parvai( Tamil) separately just to keep the feel of the language intact. I do not want to loose great score just because of some dialogues. Please note that this film was produced in both languages. In other words it's not dubbed and original in both languages. To entertain both Tamil and Telugu audience and to keep the feel, I got to record the both.

Tracks

1.The blind man

This score comes when Kamal was ill treated in a lift. Madhavi thinks Kamal looking at her without knowing that he was blind. Some people in the list beats Kamal for this mis-understanding. When they realise that he is blind, the say sorry. See how soothing and soft notes Raaja flavoured it. Later the score follows in a restaurant where Madhavi starts feeling sorry about humiliating him and keeps looking at Kamal's table.

2.The Violin Concert

Fantastic score !! Madhavi goes to Kamal's concert. He is a great Violinist in this film. The violin starts off with slow phase and get into crescendo added up with drums, guitar. Just observe the base guitar how wonderful it sounds. No one can give such score other than Maestro Ilayaraja.

3. The lonely Kamal

Kamal plays the violin alone in the darkness. You can really feel that without watching the film. Once Madhavi enters his room, the track changes to a mesmerizing keyboard chord. Just awesome

4. Childhood scenes

Kamal narrates his childhood to Madhavi. The tracks comes while small boy playing with his Nanny. Later she dies. The sad track played with some kind of vilolin which was scrambled with some electric stuff. Raaja generally uses in most of his works. AFter this scene, the boy plays on streets under rain. Her step mother scolds him. The tunes played by electric guitar, just amazing. After all these again solo Violin piece clubbed with background violins. Superb!!!

5. The violin concert again.

An everlasting masterpiece.
Kamal invites Madhavi to a recording studio to see his performance in live recording.

6. A birthday

Various incidents happens on that day. Kamal and Madhavi wants to celebrated together but he will get some humilation from her parents and so on...
Later in that night, she comes to his room to console him. The true love starts there !!! Raaja used his typical style of violins and chorus.

7.Together

The love continues..

8. Love failure.

Not really failure, but some differences...

9.Happy ending..

Note: some tracks of Tamil version were shorter than Telugu. This is due to some scenes were removed from Tamil version. So I encourage people to also download tracks from "Amavasya Chandrudu BGM"
